On  the 6^th of November 2020 an excavator with hydraulic hammer  broke through  the first 59 m tunnel under the Isarco river. The ground in the most southern construction lot of the Brenner Base Tunnel had been frozen in advance. 

It is the first of a total of four tunnels that will pass under the Isarco river.  Two connecting tunnels, total length 1,500 m, will be built in addition to the two main tubes and they will be used to connect the Brenner Base Tunnel to the existing line and to Fortezza station.
