The project encompasses construction of a new railway tunnel alongside the existing 1,736 m Beskyd tunnel, which is one of the major bottlenecks on trans-European corridor V between Ukraine and Western Europe. The existing tunnel is currently restricted to one line, in an advanced state of deterioration and has a speed limit of 15 km/h.
