The Ministry of public works awarded to Idom Internacional a EUR1.69 million design contract for the new city tunnel in Valencia, through which high speed trains will arrive to the future underground central railway station that will be built south of the existing station. The cross city tunnel will allow trains to arrive and depart from the future station, both northwards and southwards. Currently, the existing station Norte is a dead end where trains can only arrive and depart from the south. The new tunnel will permit arrivals and departures of high speed trains from the north. The access tunnel to the station will be used by high speed, suburban and regional trains on its south section but suburban and regional services will not depart northwards.
