The project involves the construction of a new railway branch line to connect the Lugaritz and Anoeta freight stations once the Lugaritz-Easo bypass is in service, seeking to make the best use of the Aiete tunnel, which will remain unused except for freight. The 450 m projected new line will be developed entirely in tunnel and cut-and-cover tunnel and it will connect the Aiete tunnel with the Morlans tunnel, thus allowing goods trains to run in the Pasaia direction.
