The project includes a 1.6 km water tunnel, excavated section 11 sq m, and a 160 m access tunnel, excavated section 14 sq m. Other underground structures include a short shaft (3-5 m) to the inlet concrete construction in Onevatn and another short shaft (2 m) to the existing water tunnel with connection to the Sima power plant. Concrete plug with steel pressure gate in the access tunnel. The excavation method is drill and blast with three drives for the water tunnel. First, 2 x 450 m is bored in alternate excavation from the access tunnel's end. Then, approx. 700 m will be excavated in one-way excavation. One Atlas Copco AC 282 jumbo (model approx. 1995) is used. The geology is massive bedrock (gneiss, granite and megmatite). Support with Orsta bolts, in average 0.2 per metre of tunnel. Loading and haulage with one Toro 301 underground loader equipped with 3 cu m bucket (2 tractors with strengthened trailers). The site is without road access, located approx. 1,000 m above sea level. All equipment transportation is done by helicopter and snow vehicles. The tunnel started on 15th May, 2005 and is expected to finish on 15th October, 2005. All works (except final clearing of the tunnel and inlet sites) to be finished on 1st December, 2005. Visit www.ncc.no, www.atlascopco.com, www.toro.sandvik.com and www.orstastaal.no 35/05.
