IRB Infrastructure Developers secured the EUR1.39 billion (Rs 10,050-crore) contract for the 14.08 km Zojila or Zozila tunnel construction on the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway in Jammu and Kashmir. The project is based on a design, build, finance, operate & transfer (annuity). It involves the construction of a two-lane and bi-directional tunnel with an escape route and a 10.8-km approach road. The NH-1 Srinagar–Sonmarg–Gumri Road,  will include three vertical ventilation shafts, a 700-m snow gallery and avalanche protection measures. The construction of the tunnel is scheduled to be completed in seven years, this is due to the tough terrain and that there will be less days when outdoor work can be undertaken due to the extreme weather conditions.
