Within the framework of the preliminary planning, variants are to be investigated:

1)      Renewal of the three tunnels: The cross-section is to be widened to the required extent so that, among other things, a track spacing of 4 m can be guaranteed in accordance with the EBO. Two operational sub-variants are to be considered. Manufactured using the tunnel-in-tunnel method or production under operating conditions / during closed periods.

2)       New construction of a single-track tunnel in parallel position and single-track renewal of the existing tunnel.

3)      Single-track renewal of the 3 tunnels (permanent single-track operation of the corresponding section of the line). The requirements of the EBA guideline "Requirements of fire and disaster protection for the construction and operation of railway tunnels" are to be implemented. In addition to the tunnels, the superstructure, rescue areas, modular buildings, fire-fighting water tanks and dry water pipes have to be planned. As an optional service, the planning of the Lph 3+ 4 is assigned for the same service screens.
