Centre route option has been selected by Dijon for the section between Genlis and Prenois, part of the Rhine-Rhone high speed line. A 4 km tunnel will be required to connect the Dijon-Dole line with the Dijon-Nancy line. Draft design will now commence. 22/02. The east branch Dijon-Mulhouse of the Rhine-Rhone high speed train requires to build the 1.7 km 100 sq m double-track Chavannes tunnel in soft ground on contract 5. An award is pending for the detailed design. Traditional means or a revamped TBM will be used for tunnelling. Tenders for construction will be invited in 2005 for work start in 2006 for an expected duration of 30 months. Contract 5 is 3.5 km in length and is estimated at €75-80 million.
