Nuclear Waste Disposal

$68 million scheme for two 500 m-deep, 5 m-diameter shafts and 1 km-long, 12 sq m-section tunnel network awarded to jv of Bouyges, Charbonnage de France, Dumez-GTM, and Campenon Bernard. Financed by users EDF, CEA and Cogema and owned by Andra, the national management agency for nuclear waste. December 1999.   Restricted tender, deadline 7th December, 2001, for the draft design comprising five lots: civil and mining engineering; nuclear engineering; mining mechanics; modelling and calculation, and computer graphics. Geology consists of marls, limestone and very hard clay.
