Joint venture of Spie Batignolles and Mediteran Union Tunel awarded three tunnels on the Zagreb-Rijeka motorway at Vileki, Javorova Kosa and Pod Vugles. A fourth at Sveti Marco will be excavated by Strabag of Austria. Recent breakthrough at 5.6 km Sveti Rok tunnel reported. October 1999.
Civil Engineering Institute of Croatia reports completion of 5.67 km Sveti Rok tunnel driven from the south by Konstruktor Split and from the north by Hidroelektra Zagreb over a six-year period from 1993. Rock conditions were good, with no soft or unexpected ground, but two natural caves were encountered, one of which was quite long and deep. On Zagreb-Rijeka highway, 1.2 km Veliki tunnels completed on full face in good rock using Tamrock drillrigs and 600 m Pod Vugles completed in shale using NATM techniques and pipe spiling.
