The consortium Belfi Conpax Aura, composed of Belfi SA, ConPax SA and Aura Ingenieria SA, secured the EUR99,93 million (UF2.98 million) contract, for the concession of El Melon tunnel expansion project in Chile's central Valparaiso region. The El Melon tunnel project (retendered) involves the construction, maintenance and operation of highway infrastructure that will boost capacity and safety. Duration of the contract is 15 years. The main element, a new tunnel alongside the 2.5 km existing one between Quillota and Petorca provinces, will be linked to the existing tunnel by 5 bypasses (4 pedestrians and 1 for vehicles). The project also includes modernising and widening of the existing tunnel to meet current standards.
