Astaldi Group has been awarded a EUR117 million contract for construction of 11 km of tunnels and additional works related to the existing Chuquicamata mining complex. Works will commence in May and have a duration of 26 months. The Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO) envisages an investment plan totalling USD3.8 billion to convert the Chuquicamata mine, currently the largest open-air mine in the world, into an underground mine.
