Concession owned by Spolur; turnkey design/construct contract by jv of Istak of Iceland, Pihl & Son of Denmark, and Skanska of Sweden, with O T Blindheim preparing conceptual design. May 1996.
Breakthrough reported by Skanska March, 1998 and tunnel opened for traffic in mid-year. October 1998.
