Turin Hosts INTERtunnel 2006The 7th INTERtunnel will be held in Turin at the Lingotto Fiere exhibition centre from 16th to 18th May, 2006. Italy is the ideal host country for an exhibition covering the construction and operation of tunnels and underground spaces. With nearly 250 road tunnels of 500 metres or more, the country's fast moving tunnelling market has almost half of the number in the entire EU. And many other road projects under way or planned, so that the country will have 65 road tunnels of more than 3,000 metres. Tunnels also feature prominently in Italy's major rail projects, such as the future high speed links between Turin and Lyon (read E-News Weekly 2/2006) and under the Brenner Pass to Austria (read E-News Weekly 13/2005).In the field of tunnel safety, major studies are in progress and investments of at least EUR2.6 billion are planned under the auspices of the EU to reach joint safety standards in road tunnels on the trans-European network (TEN).INTERtunnel 2006 will provide an opportunity for suppliers throughout the entire tunnel industry to showcase their latest products and technologies.
