Construction of Thessaloniki Metro extension to Kalamaria will begin in autumn, 2012. Four bidders have received the tender documents. They are: Aktor ATE; JV Aegek Kataskevastiki, Impregilo, Seli, Ansaldo STS; JV Terna AE, Alpine Bau Gmbh, FCC Construction SA; JV J&P, Avax AE, Ghella SpA, Alstom Transport SA.

The Kalamaria extension will add 4.8 km of line and five stations at Nomarchia, Kalamaria, Aretsou, Nea Krini and Micra.
