On March 7, 2025, the TBM ‘’Thanh Toc’’ - which was launched at the end of July 2024 from the S9 - Kim Ma station at a depth of 17.8 m - reached the S10 - Cat Linh station, Nhon - Hanoi section, Hanoi Metro Line 3, after having excavated and lined 1,338 m of tunnel.
On February 3, 2025, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB), the HGU Joint Venture, formed by Hyundai and Ghella, and the subcontractor Fecon celebrated the launch of the second TBM named ‘’Tao bạo’’at the S9 - Kim Ma station. After the first 240 m of excavation, the TBM accelerated to reach a standard speed of 10 m/day.
The cutterheads of the two TBMs - once they reach the S12 - Hanoi station - will be dismantled, while the supporting equipment will be brought back and dismantled at the S9 - Kim Ma station.
The two TBMs, specifically designed by Herrenknecht for the clayey geology of the Nhon - Hanoi section of Line 3, are over 100 m long and weigh approximately 850 t.
The Nhon - Hanoi section is 12.5 km long, 8.5km of which from Nhon to Cau Giay is elevated with 8 stations and 4 km from Cau Giay to Hanoi station (4 km) is underground with 4 stations.
To date, the overall progress of the works of the CP03 contract, relating to the tunnels and underground stations, has reached 55.38%. The construction of the project began in 2009: in 2024 the elevated section was inaugurated, while the underground section is expected to be completed by 2027.
