On 22 July, the TBM Ida celebrated the excavation of the first 4 km - out of its total 8.4 km - of the westbound line tunnel to the south at the Austrian H41 Sill-Pfons Gorge construction site. The TBM is working at a depth of approximately 1,000 m and has already passed the Viggartal and Walzn fault zones.
The TBM, manufactured by Herrenknecht, with a 10.37 m diameter, 160 m long and weighing 2,420 t including back-up - had been tested in February 2023, disassembled and then transported to the west assembly chamber of the H41 Sill-Pfons Gorge construction site, from where it was launched in June 2023 towards the municipality of Navis.
To date, approximately 22,300 segments have been laid in the two tunnels of the Brenner Base Tunnel, produced by the site's own factory.
