Rosedale outfall commissioned

20/08/2010
Rosedale outfall commissionedMcConnell Dowell contractors have commissioned the 3 km-long wastewater tunnel from Rosedale WWT plant to Wairangi Bay in Auckland, NZ. The 3.3 m-diameter Lovat RME131SE series 24400 EPB that bored the main tunnel was retrieved from a subaqueous shaft in the seabed after its drive through the Miocene sandstones, siltstones and mudstones that characterize the area. The tunnel, which was officially opened on 16.08.2010, connects with a 2.1 km-long immersed tube with 58 diffusers along its final 350 m to disperse treated effluent deep in the Rangitoto Channel.
