Construction of the 3 km-long T3 section, San Giovanni - Fori Imperiali/Colosseo, Line C of the Rome metro will start in April, 2013. The new section will be underground, with two stations Amba Aradam Ipponio and Fori Imperiali Colosseo; two short parallel tunnels, traditionally excavated, between the San Giovanni station and Via Sannio gardens; an access shaft for the two shields; a pit for compensation grouting off Amba Aradam; an intermediate aeration shaft in Piazza Celimontana; the underground connection between the Fori Imperiali station and the existing Colosseo station on Line B; and excavation with two 6.7 m-diameter EPBs of the two running tunnels, spacing 30-40 m, to a 27-55 m depth.
