The Brussels Regional Government has given the go-ahead for the renovation by a Private Public Partnership of the 2.5 km-long Leopold II road tunnel in the City of Brussels, used by an estimated 65,000 motorists each weekday. Work will start in 2014 and take three years, and will cost EUR105 million. Refurbishment of roadway, sidewalks and emergency exits will be undertaken. New niches and fume extraction points will be established. Static and dynamic signalling will be updated, along with CCTV, fire detection, radio, lighting, and power distribution systems.
