The Nova Subida da Serra (NSS) in Brazil comprises five lots and involves a new 20 km-long road section for which 15 km of the existing BR-040 will be doubled and a 4,640 m tunnel at Petropolis will be built (lot 3). Concer officially began work on 15.06.2013, after receiving approval from Agencia Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT). Excavation using drill/blast techniques will be around 6 m/day. The rock spoil, crushed and screened, will be used for paving works and soil stabilization. The tunnel will be fully equipped with systems for monitoring, security and traffic control, remote control, automatic fire detection, firefighting, ventilation and a control centre. Electricity will be supplied from a dedicated substation. End of works estimated for 2016. Click
