The government of India, following the IL&Fs financial crisis, cancelled the contracts with first contractors for the construction of the 14-km-long Zojila and 6.5-km-long Z-Morh tunnels on the strategic Srinagar-Kargil highway, in the Gagangeer-Sonamarg area. Only preliminary work has been completed in the Zojila project and about 40% work has been done on the  Z-Morh tunnel.

Fresh bids have been invited by the NHIDCL for Z-Morth tunnel (value EUR303.72 million/Rs 2378 crore) on June 2019 and for Zojila tunnel (value EUR625.72 million/Rs 4899 crore) on April 2019.
