The first locomotive has started work on the new dual-track 1822m Beskyd tunnel delivering equipment for the laying of rail tracks. The contractor Costruction Association Interbudmontazh completed the entire construction work (drilling, concreting and waterproofing) on the 26.09.17 and then handed the facility over to railway workers for upgrades to the roadbed on the approach to the new tunnel, to lay the upper structure of the railway track, and to install power transmission and communications lines. The tunnel is scheduled to be opened to traffic on May 25. The new dual-track tunnel will be able to handle up to 100 pairs of trains traveling at speeds of up to 70 km/h per day. Its previous low capacity limited the capacity of the entire V Crete International Transport Corridor, which passes through Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Russia (Trieste-Ljubljana-Budapest-Bratislava-Uzhhorod-Lviv).
