On 28.02.2012, breakthrough of the 2,820 m north tube was achieved on the SS77 Sostino tunnel in Foligno municipality on Marche-Umbria quadrilateral in Italy. The 2,834 m south tube is still underway. A day later, breakthrough of the 3,455 m north tube was achieved on Varano tunnel in Serravalle del Chienti municipality. Excavation of the 3,472 m south tube continues. Sostino and Varano are the two longest of the fourteen rock tunnels on SS77. Work on the Foligno-Civitanova Marche section should be complete end-2013.
