On August 10, 2018 Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) started the tunnelling for package 01, which comprises of Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate and Hutatma Chowk stations. The TBM Surya 1, weighing approx. 700 – 800 tonnes with a 6.65 m diameter and 98 m in length, is the 10th TBM commissioned for the Metro 3 Corridor and is manufactured by The Robbins Company and built in their factory in Shenyang, China. It will drive a 4.4 km long route between Cuffe Parade and Hutatma Chowk Metro Station. Out of 17 TBMs, 16 have already arrived in Mumbai of which 14 are now lowered and 10 are currently working.
