MHI-Duro Felguera To Build TBM for Contract 4 of Pajares Tunnel - es/55MHI-Duro Felguera, S.A., the company jointly owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Duro Felguera, clinched a contract to supply the TBM needed for contract 4 of the Pajares tunnel bypass, as part of the high speed line between Asturias and Castilla and Leon. In accordance with the contract, the machine will take 11 months to be assembled, one month to be transported to the site and another two months for reassembly at the site. It is a 10 m-diameter single shield TBM, which will be launched from the Asturian village of Telledo to excavate 10.3 km uphill to connect with the end of the section in Leon province. This tunnel is the west bore of the two parallel tunnels which will cross the mountain between Pola de Gordon and Pola de Lena. Contract 4 will be built by Copcisa, Brues and Fernandez Construcciones, Azvi and Constructora Hispanica.The TBM will weigh 1,900 tons approximately, whereof 1,200 tons for the TBM alone and 700 tons for the back-up. It is 110 m long.
