The Clearwater Project is being built to protect local waterways by addressing an aging infrastructure. The project involves the construction by TBM of a new 5.5 m (18-foot) diameter tunnel to convey treated water from the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant in Carson to existing ocean outfalls at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro. The TBM will be revealed at the launch event on April 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM -10:30 AM PDT (7:00 PM – 7:30 PM CEST) - Zoom ID 846 4982 9834. A 15-minute virtual tour will be offered immediately following the event.
Back in December 2020 they announced the winners of the TBM naming and art contests. The winning name is Rachel after Rachel Carson, who is the author of the book Silent Spring that is credited with sparking the global environmental movement. For the art contest, students were asked to submit original artwork that shows why it is important to keep our rivers and oceans clean.
