At the heart of the Koralm railway project between Graz and
Klagenfurt in Austria is the 33km-long Koralm Tunnel. The new 130 km
high-performance line consists of 12 new stations, over 100 bridges and 47 km
in tunnels. On the 14.08,2018 the joint venture between Strabag/Jaeger Bau
celebrated the first breakthrough in the 33 km long Koralm tunnel with TBM
Mauli 1. The two TBMs Mauli 1 (South tube) and Mauli 2 (North tube) have driven
17,127 and 17,145 m - up to 1,200 m below the surface and through stubborn
fault zones.
The two TBMs were launched in January and March 2013 from
Styria's Leibenfeld. Mauli 2 had already completed its trip in February 2018
and has been dismantled. The remaining 6 km to the second tunnel breakthrough
will be taken over by another TBM called Kora, this TBM started in 2015 from
the Carinthian Lavanttal.
The tunnelling work on the Stein, Lind, Peraschitzen and
Srejach tunnels in Carinthia, some of which have very difficult geology, and
the tunnelling work on the Granitztal tunnel chain, have been successfully
completed. Click here and at/42 for tunnelbuilder archive.Visit https://infrastruktur.oebb.at/en/projects-for-austria/railway-lines/southern-line-vienna-villach/koralm-railway/tunneldurchschlag.
