On the 19/05/20 in Francavilla Marittima in Cosenza province, the first stone was laid for the Mega Lot 3 of the SS 106 Ionian Highway. The EUR980 million project, was commissioned by state road agency ANAS as part of a EUR1.3-billion initiative. It will be built by the Consortium Sjrio, composed of Astaldi (60%) and Salini Impregilo (40%) forming the Webuild Group, recently created under Salini Impregilo’s Progetto Italia plan.

The Mega Lot 3 section will be 38 km, running for 1 km along the historic route to connect the Ionian coastlines Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia regions . It will also create a link between the A3 Highway and Puglia. The project includes the construction of 4 interchanges: Sibari, Cerchiara di Calabria - Francavilla, Trebisacce and Roseto Capo Spulico; 3 rock tunnels (Schiavi, Stellitano and Potresino) for  5 km in total; 11 cut&cover tunnels for 6 km  in total ; 15 bridges/viaducts for  6 km in total. The Mega Lot 3 of the Ionian Highway Work is expected to last seven years.
