Developing DSL Broadband

09/07/2003
Developing DSL BroadbandAccess to DSL Broadband is increasing rapidly, allowing us to install downloadable publications for more tunnelbuilder readers. However, the spread of DSL is not uniform. Whilst European countries such as Spain and Norway have around 3 DSL lines per 100 population, China has only 0.2. Paradoxically, in numerical terms, China has twice as many lines as Spain, which had around 1 million at the turn of the year. In the United States, there are six major DSL networks, amongst which DSL.net covers every State, and 200 cities. Typical of current governmental approaches is that in Ireland, where Eircom plans 50,000 km of high-speed fibre optic rings around 123 conurbations, linked into a national network, to provide 5Mps connections to all homes by 2005. Not bad, for a country which had less than 2,000 DSL subscribers at end-2002! Against this background of rapid change, tunnelbuilder will continue to produce user-friendly websites, catering for all systems and transmission speeds.
