Caterpillar Inc has announced that it is pulling out of the tunnelling business and closing its plant in Etobicoke, Canada which it bought from Lovat Inc just five years ago. The plant will cease operations in mid-2014 and parts and technical support will be available until 2016. The company is under contract to deliver three more TBMs to Metrolinx for the Eglinton crosstown metro extension, at which the first Caterpillar TBM is already working.
