Australian Tunnelling Conference update

The latest project updates to be discussed at the Australian Tunnelling Conference in Sydney next month

“We have a fantastic program featuring a number of project updates from all over Australia as well as the much anticipated best practice case study from Crossrail, UK” says Kim Aldridge, the conference manager of the 13th Australian Tunnelling Conference to be held in Sydney next month. Chris Dulake the Engineering Director of HS2 Phase 1 and former Chief Engineer at Crossrail will be speaking about contracting and procurement in delivering the project.

Day 1 will open on Tuesday 13th October with chairperson and new Australasian Tunnelling Society Chairman Ed Taylor welcoming attendees. This will be followed by current and future project updates from: Sydney Motorway Corporation covering Sydney’s WestConnex; Paul Croke, Transport NSW will be giving a client perspective on the Sydney Metro Project, and Dave Thomas from Public Transport Authority Perth will be speaking on the Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL).

The afternoon of Day 1 is dominated by international project updates and case studies including: The Follo Line project in Oslo; Los Angeles’ Westside purple line extension; Singapore’s Downtown Line 3 Contract and the aforementioned UK HS2 project. Sandwiched in the middle is a special mining case study on Anglo American’s Grosvenor TBM Mine project.

Day two sees further project updates from the likes of Lend Lease and Thiess who will be speaking on the NorthConnex and Wynyard Walk Tunnel projects respectively. NorthConnex is Australia’s longest road tunnel project whilst conference registration also includes a site visit of the Wynyard Walk. New for 2015 will be a focus on NZ with project updates on the Waterview tunnel construction as well as the Mt Victoria tunnel improvements.
