Acceptance test for Aurelia TBM

The 13.64 m-diameter TBM that will drive the 5.1 km-long new Aurelia bis road section from Albisola Superiore to Savona (Torrente Letimbro) in Italy is being erected in Germany for acceptance test and commissioning in mid-February. The TBM weighs 2,750 t, has a length of 120 m including back-up, installed cutting head power 3,850 kW, 4,950 kW total power, and maximum thrust 8,445 t. The new Aurelia bis road section will include four natural tunnels: Cappuccini (1.1 km) from Letimbro area at Miramare junction, excavated with TBM; San Paolo (2 km), already in operation, from the Miramare junction to rio Basci; Basci (530 m) from rio Basci to ​​Via delle Industrie area, excavated with TBM from the east adit; Grana (188 m) from Via delle Industrie area at ​​Albissola Marina to Grana area at Albisola Superiore, excaved with traditional methods.
