The 10th edition of the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards took place on 28th November 2024 in Genoa at the Magazzini del Cotone, Porto Antico , and was opened by Arnold Dix, the ITA President.
The 2024 winners are:
- Major Project of the Year over EUR500 million: Thames Tideway Tunnel – London’s new super sewer (United Kingdom)
- Project of the Year between EUR50 and EUR500 million: Brenner Base Tunnel – Lot H52 Hochstegen (Austria)
- Renovation Projects of the Year: Manfreida tunnel renovation project (Italy)
- Technical Innovation of the year: Disc cutter wear sensor package and TBM monitoring system (South Korea)
- Beyond Engineering making underground works project even better: Modern underground Cemetery-When creativity, sustainability and efficiency meet tradition (Israel)
- Product/Equipment Innovation of the year: Ultra-small Turning Radius Hard Rock TBM (China)
- Young Tunneller of the year: Luigi D’Angelo
The Life Time Achievement award went to Eng. Pietro Lunardi who has had a long career as an engineer, he revolutionized the world of tunnelling with highly innovative solutions. He created the ADECO-RS method which has allowed the construction of tunnels in any type of terrain and in any stress-strain situation, predicting construction times and costs for the first time in the design phase.
The next ITA Tunnelling Awards & Southeastern Europe Tunnelling Conference SETC 2025 will be held in the Sava Centre at Belgrade (Serbia) between 1-3 October 2025.
