Oebb Infrastruktur, which is upgrading the Westbahn rail line, has awarded Strabag Ag the EUR32.6 million contract to build the section West between St. Poelten and Loosdorf, including construction of the 390 m Radleiten cut/cover tunnel, the Radleiten trough with Wildbruecke bridge, and the 822 m-long Bruendlkapellen tunnel. The project also includes reinforced concrete structures, earthworks and track substructure, drainage facilities, road construction, and noise mitigation measures. The St Poelten–Loosdorf Gap closure (previously St Poelten freight train bypass) will significantly reduce the volume of freight and through traffic for St. Poelten station and local residents from 2017. The new dual track line will take freight trains around the centre of St.Poelten along a length of 24.7 km. The line is being built as part of the four-track upgrade of the Westbahn, and is a component of its Vienna–Salzburg section. In the east, the line links up to the existing Westbahn at Wagram Junction. In the west, it connects to the existing line at Loosdorf (Rohr Junction). Construction time is January, 2013–July, 2015. Poyry has been awarded contracts worth EUR 9.2 million by VERBUND-Austrian Hydro Power AG (AHP) for engineering services and site supervision during construction of the Reisseck II pumped storage plant from June 2010 until completion in third quarter 2014. Reisseck II will connect two existing plants: Reisseck-Kreuzeck storage power plant; and Malta power plant main stage. The existing Reisseck-Kreuzeck reservoir will be used as upper reservoir with Malta main stage providing the lower reservoir. A 5 km-long power tunnel and pressure shaft will be developed to the powerhouse cavern, where two sets of reversible 215 kW Francis-pump turbines will be located.
