Metro Line 2

  Planned to be 18.5 km-long with 18 stations, 12 of which will be underground. Newly-opened section from interchange with Line 1 at Sadat runs in 4 km bored tunnel under Nile to El Dokki and on to University at grade. Three intermediate cut-and-cover stations at Opera, Dokki and Behoos. Work continues on final 3 km section to Giza with three additional stations for completion end-2000. Mainly French companies involved as Interinfra consortium. Sept 1999. National Authority for Tunnels to invite bids for the construction of a 2.5 km extension to Line 2 from Giza to Moneib. $85.7 million project in design by Systra. Visit www.systra.com 02/01.   French-led Interinfra consortium comprising Vinci, Bouygues, Eiffage, Spie, Alstom Transport, Alcatel Italia and Egyptian firm Arab Contractors commissioned to build 3 km extension plus two stations to link Giza and Munib for $65 million. Work start in October, 2001 for completion in 2003. 45/01.  €50 million loan granted by the European Investment Bank for the 2.6 km extension of the southern end of Line 2 from Giza to Al-Monib. The project includes two new stations in Sakiak Mekky and Al-Monib. 19/02.
