The state-owned company Codelco approved an investment plan of EUR666.7 million in October, 2011 for underground construction at Chuquicamata open pit. Astaldi has been awarded a EUR118 million contract for the construction of the 7.5 km-long main access and the 6.2 km-long ore transport adit, with cross-passages and approximately 3.5 km of emergency and ventilation shafts.
