Toronto Eglinton Crosstown Project

The Crosstown project, owned by Metrolinx and operated by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), is a light rail transit (LRT) line that will run across Eglinton Avenue between Mount Dennis (Weston Road) and Kennedy Station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This 19 km corridor will include a 10 km underground portion, between Weston Road and Laird Drive, where 15 below-grade stations are under construction. Eleven will be built using a cut&cover  method and four, including Laird Station, are going to be mined. Right now, excavation of the secondary entrance at Laird Station is nearing completion and mining will begin soon.

During mining, crews will excavate from the existing shafts and work deep beneath Eglinton Avenue. The mining technique will not be used at every location along the line but is being implemented where geology permits due to its reduced impact at street level. During March and April of 2017 Metrolinx disassembled and removed the TBMs Don and Humber from the completed east tunnels. The Crosstown service will begin in 2021.Click here and ca/34 for the tunnelbuilder archive. Visit www.metrolinx.com, and www.thecrosstown.ca. 23/17.
