On 23.11.2011 breakthrough was achieved on the Mergellina-Municipio section of Naples Line 6 when the Wirth EPB TBM reached the exit shaft in Municipio. Excavation of the 2,902 m-long, 8.25 m-diameter tunnel below the water table started in October, 2007. The new section includes four cut/cover stations at Arco Mirelli, San Pasquale, Chiaia, and at Municipio interchange with Line 1.
