Milan M4 metro update

12/11/2014

On 11.11.2014 the final breakthrough in the first tunnel of Milan's M4 metro occurred at the Forlanini FS site. Excavations began last April, and to date 65 percent of the contract for the Linate-Forlanini FS section of metro has already been delivered at a price of €160 million (€108 million from public funding and around €52 million from private investors) by the MM4 Consortium, which comprises Salini Impregilo, Astaldi and Ansaldo STS, AnsaldoBreda and Sirti.

As well as around 6 km of tunnels for the metro lines, three metro stations (Linate, Quartiere Forlanini and Forlanini FS) and nine technical facilities (emergency exits, fire service entries, ventilation chambers, etc,) are now also nearing completion.

Meanwhile, initiatives to attract private financing, which is an essential precondition for the project and the execution of a concession agreement, have continued. The M4 project, for which Salini Impregilo S.p.A. is the lead contractor, involves the construction of a 14.2 km-long fully automated, driverless metro system between Linate airport and S.Cristoforo train station, Milan, with a total of 21 stops. The entire line is expected to be operational in 88 months from the signature of the concession agreement. Click here for a video, here and it/16 for tunnelbuilder archive.
