MMRC fabricates first tunnel ring for Metro-3

On 07.03.2017 Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) fabricated the first tunnel ring for the 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor project at the Wadala casting yard. About 40,000 segment rings are required for the entire Metro-3 project which will be cast by using 65 moulds imported from France, Korea etc. Some of the moulds are being brought from the Delhi Metro project. Each mould consists of a set of six segments. The segments rings required for the project will be manufactured in six casting yards of which four have been set up at Wadala, one at Darga and one at Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR).

 

The construction of the Metro 3 line, along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ in Mumbai with 26 underground stations and 1 above ground. There are 8 civil contracts, including the 7 tunnel and station packages tendered during 2015 and awarded in 2016.

The MMRC contractors have already placed orders with several international suppliers  for 14 of 17 TBMs to be delivered by July, 2017 onwards and tunnelling activity will begin in October, 2017 and will construct a 33.5 km long twin tunnel. The TBMs will be supplied by Robbins (2 new crossover), Terratec (4 new dual mode hard rock TBMs, 1 new dual mode rock TBM and 2 used rock TBMs EPB), Herrenknecht  (2 Mixshields and 3 TBMs EPB, two of which are used). Three TBMs may be supplied by a Chinese  manufacturer. The machines will dig twin tunnels for the entire stretch of the Metro line

The Rs 23,136 crore MML-3 will run from Colaba in the southern tip of the megapolis to Seepz (Andheri) in the north. The MMRC hopes to be able to build 200 metres of tunnels everyday. For further information please visit https://www.mmrcl.com/en#. 13/17.
