The TBM EPB - 9.28 m diameter – which will be involved in the excavation of the new Palermo-Catania railway Lot 4A (Caltanissetta Xirbi - Enna section) passed its FAT at the Changsha facilities of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry (CRCHI).

The approximately EU 1.2 billion contract was awarded in April 2023 to the Triscelio consortium, consisting of Webuild (leader), Ghella, Seli Overseas and TunnelPro.

In a few weeks, the TBM will begin its underground work, excavating 7.5 km of line, in addition to the exploratory tunnel of Salso tunnel, with an average advance speed of 18 m/day.
