Follo Line from Oslo to Ski

05/04/2013

The new 22 km-long double track Oslo-Ski line is part of the Follo project, which comprises 64 km of rail track. Preliminary works will start in 2013, and the contract for the 19.5 km-long twin tunnel will be tendered soon afterwards. Construction of the railway line is scheduled to start in 2014. The new line, designed for 200-250 km/h, includes extensive works at Oslo Central Station, construction of a new station at Ski, and necessary realignment of the Ostfold Line. This is the first twin-bore railway tunnel to be built in Norway. Four large TBMs will be used, two from Asland outside Oslo boring southwards to the tunnel portal at Langhus, and two boring northwards to Bekkelaget. It is planned to use traditional drill/blast methods for the final 2.8 km section towards Oslo Central Station, for all cross connections between the two tunnel bores, for three access tunnels to the main tunnel, for a large mountain hall for construction work, and for a tunnel to the Ostfold Line. At Asland, alongside the E6 European highway southwards out of Oslo, a large rigging area will be established. Concrete tunnel lining segments will be among a number of components manufactured here.Tunnel spoil will be transported by conveyor to Asland for processing. The Follo line is scheduled for completion towards the end of 2019. Click no/86 for tunnelbuilder archive. Visit www.jernbaneverket.no. 14/13.
