First Central Subway TBM arrives

On 23.04.2013 the M/V Aggersborg arrived at Port of San Francisco Pier 80 Omni Terminal carrying Mom Chung, the first of two EPBs for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, SFMTA, that will excavate the Central Subway tunnels from South of Market to Chinatown and North Beach. The TBM Mom Chung, 6.1 m-diameter and more than 91 m-long, has been trucked into the launch box where it will be reassembled and launched in mid-June for driving the tunnel for southbound trains. The second TBM Big Alma will arrive in June and begin boring the northbound tunnel in August. The TBMs were designed and manufactured by The Robbins Company at a plant in Guangzhou, China.
