On 28.04.2015 the Danish Parliament adopted the Construction Act for the
fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt and the Danish landworks, authorizing the
state-owned companies Femern A/S and A/S Femern Landanaeg to commission the
works.
The Fehmarnbelt fixed link will comprise an 18 km-long immersed tunnel
between Rodbyhavn on Lolland and Puttgarden on the German island of
Fehmarn. The immersed tunnel and the upgrading of the Danish landworks will be
financed by users of the fixed link.
In Germany, the political decision to build the Fehmarnbelt link was
taken in 2009, with ratification of the State Treaty agreed between Denmark and
Germany in 2008.
Construction work can only commence when German plan approval is in place
and after the parliamentary parties behind the Fehmarnbelt fixed link have
reviewed the overall economics of the Fehmarnbelt project in the autumn of
2015. Femern A/S has recently been negotiating with the international
contractor consortia that have submitted bids for the major construction
contracts. After the summer holidays, the company will present a comprehensive
financial assessment and an updated time schedule for the project to the parliamentary
parties behind the Fehmarnbelt. Click here and dk/14 for tunnelbuilder
