08/03/2024

On March 1, the joint venture Mularroya, composed of Acciona and Sacyr, celebrated the final breakthrough for the 12.6km-long water transport tunnel in the Mularroya dam project in the province of Zaragoza.

The TBM Creta - a Herrenknetch model M-949-M (diameter of 3.55 m) - broke through for a tunnel, that will contribute to the filling of the reservoir Mularroya, transporting surplus water from the Jalon River to the Grío River basin, maximizing the use of the area’s water resources for irrigation. The excavation of the tunnel started on 24  November 2020. Prior to the start of the mechanized excavation, 61 m of conventional excavation had been completed.

The underground tunnel has an internal diameter of 2.9 m and it traverses the city of Calatayud, Paracuellos de la Ribera, El Frasno, and Morata de Jalon, with a capacity to carry 8 cubic metres of water per second.

With Creta breakthrough now begins the final stage of the work on this project. The Joint Venture Jabacin, composed of Typsa and Drace, Geocisa is encharged of the technical assistance.
