31/12/2007
Atlas Copco Gets SEK94 Million Order in TurkeyAtlas Copco has received an order in Turkey to supply tunnelling equipment to the Cengiz-IC Ictas-Belen consortium, which is building a high speed railway between Ankara and Istanbul. The contract is valued at about SEK94 million. The order includes 13 L2D underground drill rigs and two D7 surface crawler rigs, which will be used for the second stage of the high speed train project. The drilling rigs are scheduled to be delivered from March to November 2008. The equipment will be used for excavation of 39 tunnels with a total length of 39.1 kilometres in 40 different locations. The longest tunnel spans 4,960 metres. The second stage of the 533 km Istanbul-Ankara high speed line (see red alignment on map) stretches for 158 km in total and will be constructed in two phases: Köseköy-Vezirhan (first phase, 104 km) and Vezirhan-Inönü (second phase, 54.3 km). There will also be three cut-and-cover tunnels, with a total length of 1,550 metres, 33 viaducts (10.3 km in all) and five stations (Sapanca, Arifiye, Pamukova, Mekece, and Vezirhan). Upon completion in 2010, the new railway will more than halve the travel time between Ankara and Istanbul to approximately three hours instead of six hours 30 minutes at the moment. The productivity and reliability of Atlas Copco's equipment was essential in winning this order. The contract also includes orders from IC Ictas and Cengiz for drill rigs and load handling equipment to be used in other projects. This includes drill rigs (seven RB282, three D7 and two L8) and load handling (one MT2010 minetruck and two ST1030 scooptrams).
