At any given time, there are around 180 km of tunnels under construction, mainly by TBM. Of the jobs in progress, or to start in 2001, metros are a major feature, with system extensions at Bochum (2,450 m), Dortmund (7,572 m), Frankfurt (4,002 m), Hamburg-Olsdor (4,284 m), Leipzig (7,900 m), Munich (10,129 m), Nuremberg (3,986 m) and Stuttgart (10,495 m).
