Sewer

Aguas Argentinas has engaged Brown & Root to provide technical, cost and programme services for design and construction of an 8 km-long, 3.3 m-diameter sewer tunnel on the eastern border of the city and an optional 7 km-long sea outfall tunnel into the 40 km wide River Plate between Argentina and Uruguay. EPB construction is envisaged in soft marine deposits at 30 m depth below city and harbour areas. Construction due to commence later this year. Visit www.halliburton.com July 2000.

Water Supply

  15 km-long, 3.5 m-diameter Saavedra-Moron tunnel reaching completion by Wayss & Freytag/Sollazo Hnos for Aguas Argentinas using Herrenknecht EPB. Safege Montgomery Watson are client's engineer. Tunnelling conditions post-evaluation study carried out by team chaired by Mike Kobler of Underground Construction Managers and including Alastair Biggart of Hatch Mott MacDonald and Gary Brierley of Brierley Associates. The tunnel comprises four drives of 3.56 km, 4.2 km, 3.7 km, and 3.8 km at depth 35 m from five shafts. Ground conditions were variable, ranging from quicksands under 2.5 bar pressure, through green sandy clays to hard consolidated silts with calcareous nodules. Soil conditioning using bentonite or foam, or both. The two Herrenknecht 4.3 m-diameter EPBs averaged 20 x 1.2 m-wide gasketed rings/day with a best performance of 35 rings. Metro Line A

Modernisation financed by World Bank to be supervised by Electrowatt Engineering of Zurich working with two local companies. November 1999. The city is negotiating to borrow up to $1.5 billion for an ambitious scheme to extend the 36.5 km metro by 50 km by 2010. June 2000.  Bidders for Line A extension between Primera Junta and Flores are Benito Roggio; Techint; José Cartellone; Dycasa; Obrascí³n; CCI Construcciones; IEcsa and SADE-Skanska. 3.2 km tunnel and four stations at Puí¡n, Carabobo, Plaza Flores and Nazca with time frame of 36 months to cost US$80 million. Visit www.metrovias.com.ar 45/01.Buenos Aires has prequalified five groups to extend by 3.5 km metro line A, at a cost of US$36.1 million. The groups are: Benito Roggio e Hijos; José Cartellone; Dycasa; Skanska; and Techint. Line A, which was inaugurated in 1913 and was Latin America's first metro, has 14 stations and runs 7.13 km. The extension will run from the current southern terminus in Primera Junta through four stations in Puan, Carabobo, Flores and Nazca. Work is expected to begin by mid-2004 and finish in 2007. 50/03.Dycasa is the lowest bidder to build Line A extension from Primera Junta to Nazca, with a budget of USD95.2 million. Then follow Jose Cartellone with USD97.3 million, Benito Roggio with USD103.3 million, Techint with a bid of USD105.7 million and Sade Skanska with USD119.9 million. Metro - Line B

Extension valued at US$60 million 1.04 km from Federico Lacroze to Trondaor and onwards 0.75 km to Los Incas. Tenders invited. February 1999.   Fourteen month civil engineering contract awarded to Techint for 1.79 km extension, as above, value $34 million. To be built by cut and cover along Avenida Triunvirato. Second 1.7 km extension in preliminary design by state holding company Subterraneos de Buenos Aires Sociedad del Estado who hope to start work by 2002. Further stations will be built at Echeveria and Villa Urqiza along the same avenue. Sept 1999.Dywidag reports that section B of line B is under construction by a joint venture of Techint-Dywidag with twin single-track tunnels and two cut and cover stations at Tronador and Los Incas. They are Benito Roggio e Hijos, Techint, Dycasa and Skanska. The tender value amounts to Ps97.2 million (USD32.7 million). The project plans a 1.6 km extension westward from Las Incas station. Work to commence in March 2005 for inauguration scheduled for 2007. 39/04.The financial offers for Line B extension in Buenos Aires are: Benito Roggio e Hijos with ARS100 million; Dycasa with ARS100.9 million; Techint ARS105.9 million; and Skanska ARS108.8 million. The preferred contractor will be the one which submitted the best combination of technical and financial bids. Construction will commence before March 2005 to end in June 2007. The extension will add 1.6 km and two stations to the 11 km line. 43/04.

Metro - Line H

Starting end-1998 in two stages of 5 km to connect Retiro railway station with Nueva Pompeya. Will be known as H-line with 12 stations planned enroute and four interchanges with other lines. May 1998.The first section of line H has been awarded to Dycasa for a start between January and March, 2001 while bids for the second section are under evaluation by the city of Buenos Aires. More from teaspk@tearg.com.ar November 2000.Five companies have submitted financial bids for the construction of the south section of Line H, between Caseros and Hospitales, with two new stations in Parque Patricios, under Caseros Avenue, and Hospitales, under Almafuerte Avenue. The Ps71,188,471 low bid, below the official estimate, has been submitted by Jose Cartellone. Dycasa offered Ps86,342,428 and Benito Roggio Ps87,700,550. Techint proposed Ps92,148,448 while Skanska is the highest bidder with Ps99,342,428. The financial bids will now be assessed prior to the contract award, which will also take into account the technical bids. This will be the second section of Line H. The first section, which construction is under way by Dycasa, includes five stations from Once to Caseros. Line H spans 11.4 km from the south to downtown and will serve a total of 16 stations. The contract to build a 4 km-long extension of metro Line H with six new stations, value EUR394 million, has been awarded to a consortium of Techint (leader) and Dycasa (Dragados y Construcciones SA). Line H is to be extended northwards from Corrientes to Plaza Francia, with intermediate stations at Cordoba, Santa Fe and Las Heras.
