The parallel safety tunnel and the main tunnel have similar lengths (2,381 m). The main tunnel cross-section equals approx. 100 square metres, while the safety tunnel will feature an approx. 4 m diameter (12.5 square metres). Seven cross-passages, two lay-bys, two E&M plants (one at the south mouth and one in the tunnel) and a ventilation plant at the south mouth will also be built. Two attacks have been envisaged by the owner: one from south in the main tunnel and one from north in the safety bore but the bidders are free to submit alternatives. The geology is mainly two-mica gneiss, gneiss with hornblende, gneiss with biotite and schistous gneiss, with high compressive strength. Water infiltration is possible. For the main tunnel, a pilot bore will first be driven using a TBM, approx. 4 m in diameter, then the pilot bore will be enlarged. Both digging phases will follow an ascending gradient. Then the TBM will be re-used for the safety tunnel, this time as per a descending gradient. The bidders were free to propose alternatives to this. Rock reinforcement will be secured mainly by means of bolts, anchors, welded mesh, shotcrete and steel arches. The bidders were also free to choose their method for rock haulage. The construction contract is scheduled to be awarded in November. Excavation of the tunnel will begin in spring 2009. Detailed description of the tasks Within the framework of the maintenance of the FEDRO tunnels and galleries, the monitoring of the structures is of great importance in order to detect defects at an early stage and to assess the current condition of the structures or the individual structural parts and their equipment can. The main inspection, which is carried out periodically, is one of the core elements in the monitoring and maintenance process of the tunnels and galleries and aims to record the structural condition of the structure and the condition of the BSA. It includes: - Procurement and viewing of the existing documents and bases, familiarization, preliminary work, processing of the documents for the condition recording or inventory - Visual inspection, recording and recording of the data using the KUBA-Mobile application (structural systems) down to the component assessment level and evaluation of the components using condition classes - Comparison of the OS inventory databases with FA-BSAS - Visual inspection, recording and recording of the data using the FA-BSAS application down to the unit level - Assessment and evaluation of the units using condition classes, estimating the service life of the units - Planning and coordination of the tests of anchors and rockfall protection devices (testing by specialists) - updating of damage plans and synoptic plans, resp. PRICE EVALUATION The lowest adjusted offer receives the maximum mark (5). Offers whose price is 100% or more above the lowest offer receive a grade of 0. In between, the evaluation is linear (rounded to 2 places after the decimal point). Any discounts offered will not be taken into account when assessing the price. Instructions on legal remedies: According to Art. 56 Para. 1 of the Federal Act on Public Procurement (BöB), a written complaint can be lodged with the Federal Administrative Court, Postfach, 9023 St. Gallen, within 20 days of its opening. The complaint must be submitted in duplicate and must contain the request, the reasons for it, the evidence and the signature of the person making the complaint or their representative. A copy of the present ruling and available evidence must be enclosed. The canton of Bern’s road office awarded in March the construction contract of the east branch of the A5 motorway bypass in Biel to a consortium of Walo Bertschinger, Specogna Bau and Porr Technobau und Umwelt. The east branch of Biel’s four-lane motorway bypass stretches for 4.9 km. It goes from the A5/A16 interchange in Champs-de-Boujean in the north and then takes the 2 x 1.5 km Büttenberg tunnel. After an open air section in Orpond, the motorway then runs though the 2 x 2.5 km Längholz tunnel. In Marais-de-Brügg in the south, an interchange will connect the east branch with the T6 semi-motorway to Lyss and Bern and with the future west branch, still under planning. After approx. 1.5 km on its way through the Langhölz tunnel, the TBM will work in closed mode because of changing geology. The spoil will be extracted by a conveyor belt. The ARGE Gubri - composed of Implenia Schweiz AG from Glattpark -Opfikon  (40%, leader), Walo Bertschinger AG from Zurich (30%) and Anliker AG from Emmen (30%) – secured the EUR 182.03 (CHF 184.03 million) contract, including 7% VAT,  for the renovation of the Gubrist tunnel, tubes 1 and 2 on the N01/38,42 Zurich northern ring road extension: main construction works (Lot 300).  

The project starts with preparatory work in autumn 2022 and will last about four years. The existing tunnel tubes are no longer big enough to accommodate today’s traffic, so they are being enlarged: the road surface is being lowered by 30cm and the new suspended ceiling is being made higher. In order to increase safety standards, 22 new emergency bays are being built into the second tube, while the 24 emergency bays in the first tunnel are being renovated.
